Hoffmann postcard of Hauptmann Fritz Fessmann.


Fritz Fessmann received  the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on the 27th of October 1941 as Leutnant der Reserve and Zugführer der 1./Panzeraufklärungs-Abteilung 7 of the 4. Panzer-Division.

 

30/11/1942 he was severily wounded during the battles at Stalingrad. On the 4th of January 1943 he received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves as Oberleutnant der Reserve of the 1./ Kradschützen-Bataillon 64

 

Fessmann was KIA on the 11th of October 1944 at Pakamonen, near Tilsit. He had just debarked from his vehicle when a Soviet shell exploded before him, throwing him back into the vehicle and killing him instantly. He was posthumously awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords(23.11.1944) and promoted to Major of the Reserves.

 

 

 

 

 

The postcard was sent as Feldpost (nicely stamped  Ausbildungslehrgänge der  Panzertruppenschule II Potsdam-Krampnitz) to a HJ-boy named Theo Smets. Some more original wartime signed postcards, which were sent to him, will follow in future updates.
