Wehrpass to Obergefreiter Richard Meier. He was born on the 12th of October 1918 in Ringeldorf, Jerichow.

 

Meier started his active military career in August  1939 with the 3. /257 Baubataillon

 

He was trained with the K98 and followed additional training as Pferdepfleger (horse groom)

 

Meier was promoted  to Gefreiter on the first of June 1940 and to Obergefreiter on the first of January 1942.

 

From 26.8.1939 he served with the 3./Bau-Bataillon 257 which was formed out of RAD-units.

14.12.1939- 6.2.1940 4. (MG) Kompanie Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 1941.

 

7.2.1940-20.11.1941 With the 13. (L.G.Kompanie) of Infanterie Regiment 348 (part of the 216. Infanterie-Division) he saw action at the Western Front e.g. Antwerpen, Tielt, Zingem, Dentergem Diksmuide and Veurne(Furnes) in Belgium, then the regiment crossed the French border with the attack on Ghyvelde and Dunkirk/Dünkirchen.

After the French campaign the regiment remained as occupational force till 20.11.1941.

 

On the 20th of November 1941 the 13.(L.G. Kompanie) of the regiment was transferred to Infanterie Regiment 385. With this regiment, part of the 223. Infanterie-Division, he saw action at the Eastern Front and more specific in the Leningrad region from 21.11.1941 till 23.3.1943 

 

On the 15th of October 1942 the regiment was renamed to Grenadier-Regiment 385.

 

He was KIA on the 23rd of March 1943 at Karbusselj,  25 km. southeast of Schlüsselburg(Sjlisselburg)


He was awarded  the Ostmedaille, EK2  and Wound Badge in Black on the 5th of February 1943 while serving with Grenadier Regiment  385
