Flieger-Ausbildungs-Regiment 53 was formed in Straubing on the first of April 1939.
In November 1941 it was renamed to Flieger-Regiment 53 and moved to Tongeren, Belgium as part of the Luftgau-Kommando Belgien-Nordfrankreich. In August 1944 it was renamed to Luftgau-Feld-Regiment Belgien-Nordfrankreich. Disbanded on the ninth of September 44 and absorbed by the Fallschirmtruppe
