He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves on the 9th of August 1942 as Generalmajor and Commander of the 13th Panzer Division. On the 18th of December 1944 he received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords as General der Panzertruppe and commanding general of LXXVI Panzer Corps.
