Soldbuch to Funk-Obergefreiter Helmut Gäbel who was born on the 20th of September 1922 in Heidewilxen,Schlesien.
His soldbuch was in December 1941 with the Stab/ 13.Schiffs-Stamm-Abteilung, part of the 2. Admiral der Ostsee stationed in Saßnitz.
He received his basis training with the 13.Schiffs-Stamm-Abteilung. His unit was moved to Libau January 1943 and became part of the 3. Schiffs-Stamm-Regiment. From May 1943 he served in the 1. Funk-Mess-Abteilung (part of the 1.Schiffs-Stamm-Abteilung). Most probably this unit was active in Denmark and later in Belgium.
June 1944 he transferred to Admiral Ostland where he served in the 101. Funk-Mess-Kompanie and was for example hospitalised in Meriküla, Estonia. With his last unit the 82nd Funkmesskompanie he went into captivity.
As a POW he served on the former Schnellboot Begelitschiff "Tanga" 1946 in a unit formed from disarmed Wehrmacht personnel and employed under the control of the Allied Authorities. ( see page 37 and the additional paper of the Royal Navy glued on the back of the Soldbuch)
