He was promoted to Matrosengefreiter on the first of November 1944 while serving with the 4./ Marineersatz-Abteilung 35 in Gotenhafen. He was then transferred to the 6. Kompanie of the 2. Unterseebootsausbildungsabteilung and a couple of months later to the 3. Unterseeboot-Lehr-Division.
