Soldbuch to Stabsgefreiter Hermann Großekathöfer . He was born on the 3rd of May 1912 in Verl.

 

Hermann Großekathöfer started his active military career in September 1939 with the 3./Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 497 stationed in Bernburg, Wehrkreis XI.

 

He was promoted to Oberschütze on the 1st of April 1941, to Gefreiter on the first of May 1941 (both while serving in the 3./ Infanterie-Regiment 287).  On the first of  November 1942 to Obergefreiter and finally to Stabsgefreiter on the 30th of January 1945.

 

After his training he served with the 3./ Infanterie Regiment 287, part of the 96th Infanterie-Division. This division was deployed at the Newa-Wolchow front. He was wounded by grenade schrapnel and was hospitalized from 31.10.1941 till 21.11.1941.


After his recovery he returned to his regiment at the Newa-Front. From the 21st of March 1942 till August 1943 he was hospitalized (Reservelazarett Zweibrücken, Lippstadt and Gütersloh) with second- and third degree frostbites on the feet. After recovery he was transferred to the Heeres-Nachschubtruppenschule Fahnenjunker-Lehrgänge 8. Inspektion till the end of the war.


He was decorated with the Wound Badge in Black on the 6th of November 1941 and the Eastern Front Medal on the 24th of August 1942.
