Death card to the Dalhoff cousins
 
Fritz(Friedrich) Dalhoff: Obermaschinenmaat on the U-257. On the death card one can see he was awarded the Iron Cross Second Class and the U-Boat War Badge.
 
The U-257 had moved to St. Nazaire and she departed from this French Atlantic port on 2 January 1944. On 24 February, she was attacked and sunk in mid-Atlantic(north of the Azores) by the Canadian frigate HMCS Waskesiu, assisted by HMS Nene. Thirty men died in the sinking, there were nineteen survivors.
