Wehrpass to Feldwebel Gerhard Ast. He was born on the 16th of August 1917 in Neulaube, Kreis Fraustadt.
Gerhard Ast started his active military career in November 1937 as volunteer with the 14./ Infanterie-Regiment 49 stationed at Breslau, Wehrkreis 3.
He was promoted to Gefreiter on the first of November 1938 and to Unteroffizier on the first of May 1940. He saw his last promotion to Feldwebel on the first of January 1942 while serving with the 16.(Panzerjäger) Komp. Jäger-Regiment 49.
He followed a Hauptfeldwebelprüfung 18.12.1941 (see page 21)
After his training he was action with Infanterie-Regiment 49, part of the 28. Infanterie-Division, at the Western Front. The Wehrpass shows an impressive battle calendar starting with the invasion of Poland with the battle of Mikolow (Nikolai i. German) where he was wounded by a shot through the left upper arm on the 2nd of September 1939.
He returned to his regiment a couple of months later to participate in the invasion of France through the Belgian Ardennes with for example the famous tank battle of Denée followed by the Maginotlinie battles, Mauberge (Fort Boussois), battles south of Valenciennes, Beaumont,...
From 26.6.1940 till 24.5.1941 his unit was part of the occupation forces in France.
On the 11th of December 1941 Infanterie-Regiment 49 was renamed to Jäger-Regiment 49 and became part of the 28. Leichte Division.
With the start of Operation Barbarossa on the 22nd of June 1941 he saw action during the battles of Grodno, Smolensk, Wjasma.

From 9.3.1942 till 30.6.1942 he saw action on the Krim where he was KIA on the 30th of June 1942 at Nikolajewka
He was awarded the Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 1.10.1938 (Sudetenland-Medaille), EK2 and the Wound Badge in Black.
