Werner Röhl started his active military career in August 1939 with the 2. Ers. (Kradschützen) Eskadron, Aufklärungs Abteilung 13 stationed in Stendal.
He was trained with the K98, L.M.G 34, and Pistole 08.
He was promoted to Oberschütze on the first of April 1940, He saw his last promotion to Gefreiter on the first of June 1940.
After his training with the the 2. Ers. Aufklärungs Abteilung 13 from 30.8.1939 till 16.11.1939 and a month in the 2./Schützen Ers. Kompanie (mot.) 66, he served in the 7./ Schützen Regiment 110 from 8.12.1939 till he was KIA on the 30th of June 1941.
Schützen Regiment 110 was part of the famous 11. Schützen-Brigade. This Brigade became famous for its military successes and was nicknamed "Gespensterdivision" by its opponents. On the first of August 1940 the 11. Schützen-Brigade was reorganized and became the 11. Panzer Division.
He saw action in the southern part of Belgium and the campaign in France ( le Quesnoy, Cambrai, Dünkirchen, Dieppe, Brest). After the French campaign the unit returned briefly to Germany.
From 21.1. 1941 till 26.4.1941 it saw action in Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia before returning for about 2 months in Germany. On the 22nd of June the Regiment was deployed in Russia. Werner Röhl was KIA 8 days later on the 30th of June 1941 in Russia.
He was awarded the EK 2 on the first of June 1940, Schutzwall Ehrenzeichen on the 14th of December 1940 and the Panzer Assault Badge on the 20th of February 1941.
